Assisi for the Disabled and Physically challenged
AssisiAccessibile.it is a unique site dedicated to promoting information regarding accessibility for disabled people in Assisi and its surrounding areas in Umbria. The site was created by Renzo Pieri who has first hand experience of being physically challenged in his hometown of Assisi. He decided to create this site to give other people correct and detailed information about existing barriers in the area. He’s also done a useful survey on hotels and restaurants, evaluating how accessible they are to people with various mobility challenges such as people in wheelchairs.

This is a wonderful site for those of you interested in the Medieval Ages: history, art, folklore of Medieval Umbria. The site is definitely worth checking out even if it is only in Italian at the moment. Under Events, you can find a list of historical and religious events from the period. If you are looking for some architecture, look under Castles and Fortresses and Religious Buildings for descriptions and details on how to visit the structures by train or car. Under Saints and Famous Figures, learn more about the men and women who have shaped history. Of course, there is a list of museums with descriptions and contact information. Finally, the site also offers suggested itineraries, ranging from spiritual tours to local food and wine stops and from traditional products to folklore and ancient crafts.
